We had 12 people at the Chips and Salsa party this weekend. The idea of this is blossoming, and
quite a few people are beginning to get interested. There are rumors circulating that there may be a couple of people interested in bringing a Kung Fu movie to the next party.
One thing to remember is that anything that you can bring to share is cool (with the exception of the things that cannot be present due to house rules : alcohol etc.), if you can bring candy, or cookies, or anything like that, we will find a way to share it with as many people at the party as possible. This week we had brownies, apple cider, Pepsi, and as always, Chips and Salsa. If you are going to bring something, a good thing to bring is something that you can be associated with, that people will remember is distinctly something that you like.
I might pick up a pack of Oreo cookies for this week because I really like them. My grandmother and uncles on my father's side got me involved in the whole idea of having Oreo's when I was a little kid.
Anyway, I am going to finish up these updates now, but I thought that I would make these public notes so that I could get these things off of my mind.
Have a great week, and keep enjoying 1998. We're at the edge of the next month already! March 98 is going to be one big Shamrock of a time.

I am going to copy this onto my political page also but I think that it is important enough to copy here. Here is an article from the Democratic News that I received this past Thursday.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PRESIDENT CLINTON OPPOSES TAXING INTERNET COMMERCE
President Clinton will speak against taxing Internet commerce when he
addresses a technology investors' conference in San Francisco on Thursday,
according to an administration official. President Clinton believes that
the Internet is spurring the growth of new industries and that new taxes
imposed by thousands of local jurisdictions would undermine that economic
impact, said an administration official. The National Governors'
Association has called on Congress to enact legislation creating a uniform
system to collect state taxes on sales conducted over the Internet.
[New York Times, 2/26/98]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is a good idea not to tax commerce over the Internet at this point and time. Business is not formalized enough yet to handle a tax system. That is my opinion anyway. I still can't afford to buy a car over the internet, and if prices drop maybe in the future, I will be able to do so.

Thanks to a good friend of mine, I just found this cool little image of the flag and modified it, so that it is effectively my own created piece of software using the Photomagic that came with my handheld scanner. So here it is, whenever I make any updates to my politics page, or modify any of my politics info here, I will attempt to make a link to it using this little flag. Check it out, this one links to my politics page.

BTW for those of you who are into burning things, you can't burn a self replicating idea! You'd be cutting your own head off to do it! (Take that one up with a philosopher, or ask me in e-mail if you don't understand.)
Keep enjoying 1998 everybody!
- Christopher J. Bradley February 25, 1998, 2:58 AM

Last night, for the first night in a couple of nights, I got some sleep. I skipped a class that I probably should not have skipped, because now I am not sure which part of the book I am working on for the class, but I think that in the long run, things will work out in my favor.
I got three meals today, and now it is time to get down to work on a paper that is due Thursday. I will be working on that for most of the night. It is about a Native American woman's understanding of the impact of technology on her tribe in the 1800's.

Earlier, I had a chance to see the movie Palmetto a friend, while I was out shopping for a birthday present for another good friend of mine. This friend has said that he will be at the Chips and Salsa party on Friday after his family takes him out for dinner.

I think that I mentioned this once, but one of my friends has agreed to bring Apple Cider to our next planned Chips and Salsa event, I think that it will be interesting to have Apple Cider there. This party looks to be even larger than the last one, so I have stocked up on Pepsi products.
Target's price was 6 24 Oz. bottles for $2.70.

Enjoy the rest of the week everybody, it is going by very quickly. I am starting to have to keep track of the location of my books because I keep moving them around inside my house. At least I have a semi-regular place for the newspaper (which incidentally, I had to complain about today, because it did not arrive as scheduled). Anyway, make sure that you also continue to have a good year,
it is sometimes difficult to remember the importance of the fact that as we speak, years are gradually passing, and we only have a limited number of them to do great things in.
- Christopher J. Bradley February 25, 1998, 12:49 AM

I just got back from my friend's house tonight. We had coffee, which turned out to be some of the coffee's that I have given him in the past, collected in one jar and all mixed up. The coffee tasted
delicious. I have asked him to bring some of it over next time he visits me, so that I can share some of it, it was really good.

I told him about my disappointment with certain aspects of the comedy show that we went to see last night. I also talked with him about a great many other things, including interests related to alternative uses of recycled materials for the building of houses.

Don't forget to check out WJJL (1440 AM). One of my favorite local DJ's spins the "wheels of steel" with that "Old Time Rock and Roll" there. He sounds like he's really working his way up at this place. With continued listenership, he should really start to rock the house. Ask me personally for details on when his show is on. I am going to try to get this individual to come out of the DJ booth for a couple of hours next week to meet with the members of the Chips and Salsa community. I understand that he has a rather hectic schedule, and so I will try to make it easy for him to make the gig.
Don't worry about plans changing, I like consistancy now, I hope that all of you do as well. I will try to communicate with all of you telephonically this week. (As well as digitally, for those of you who are Wired.)

I should be working on my homework right now, but I thought that I should add this one item here, that we should not forget to remember. The next major holiday coming up is St. Patrick's Day. It is March 17th. It might be convenient to celebrate it the 14th or 15th this year because these dates fall on the weekend (Closest to the actual holiday). There was a suggestion that we have corn beef and cabbage as a part of the celebration.
I think that Wolverine would like to get involved in the planning stages of the holiday. I hope that my guess is correct. The holiday is only a few days away.
- Christopher J. Bradley - February 22, 1998 11:17 PM
PS: It has also been rumoured that apple cider will be one of the ingredients of the next Chips and Salsa event. Anyone with any other suggestions is welcome to make them, or offer to bring their own favorite food to event. As I have already stated, I will be in touch with you, by telephone if possible.

When I first logged on today, I had some trouble reading my electronic mail using Netscape Communicator 4.04. I think that they did something strange to the e-mail server at my Internet Service provder. These repeated changes and rate increases are starting to make me wonder whether or not I wish to stay at my current service provider. It is a good thing that all of this data is relatively portable. Although it would take the entire Summer to re-upload and link back together.

This weekend we dropped the bomb on Niagara Falls, now we are just waiting for the mushroom cloud to blossom. The word is out, get your Chips and Salsa while the chips are still Crunchy, and the Salsa is still Cold. The Pepsi most surely runneth over. Give a little bit of yours to your favorite goose, and see if he or she, doesn't start honking like mad. (Forgive me for getting into televised art.)
Don't forget to call LaPalermo's next time you order a pizza. Someone from the party ordered us a tray of pizza, and the pizza was delicious. He's a big St. Louis fan who is often found playing hockey in a variety of different places in and outside of the city.
A couple of people brought ice-cream and videos too. Unfortunately we didn't have time to watch both videos, because we got to talking, and flipping to a bunch of different channels on the television. However, the ice-cream was really good, and I am certain that we will have more of it in the future.

I stayed up late and had a chance to watch MTV AMP last night, and there were a whole slew of new videos. Unfortunately, they all came just short of the quality of the Bentley Rhythm Ace video that I watched last week (which I made everyone watch at the Chips and Salsa party). There were a couple of cool ones though, and I will have to tell you who they were by as I watch the tape a little bit more this week. There was a lot of compressed data on the videos this week, and I am glad that I did not miss recording them. Sign language was a big part of one of the videos.

I saw the following piece of information about Clinton in the Democratic News that I receive. It is interesting, but it does not specify one thing, and that is where the $1 billion dollars is coming from, so I would not misinterpret this to mean that this is something that has already been done, I think that it is something that the Administration hopes to do.

CLINTON ADMINISTRATION TO REWARD STATES FOR MOVING WELFARE RECIPIENTS INTO JOBS
The Clinton Administration has decided to reward the states that are most
successful at moving welfare recipients into jobs and keeping them there by
distributing $1 billion in federal bonuses. The 10 states that rank highest
on four measures -- "job entry rates," "success in the work force,"
improvement in "job entry rates" and improvement in workforce success --
will receive bonuses. "These bonuses are an important part of our strategy
to ensure that the centerpiece of welfare reform is moving families from
welfare to work," said Health and Human Services Secretary Donna E. Shalala.
[Washington Post, 2/17/98]

For tonight, these art the only ideas that I will have been able to document. There will be more to come tommorrow, like the story about the comedy club that I visited with a group of friends tomorrow, and my opinions on the attitudes of the performers. I thought that one of them had an extremely chaotic spirit, and did not like her performance at all, while I was able to appreciate the performances of the other two, who seemed more relaxed and at peace with themselves.

I would suggest that each of you continue your journey through life, at a pace that you can be satisfied with, and to not allow other people to impact you in ways that make you uncomfortable. That is my piece of advice for the day, don't worry, as long as I can type, I will not run out of them.
- Christopher J. Bradley February 22, 1998, 4:52 AM

Well, I couldn't help doing an update today. Today I got my first Wall Street Journal, heard a band at school, visited four friends and got my homework done. Somehow I also managed to Aquire both the Artvoice and The Buffalo Beat for this weeks coffee table reading material. We are dropping Chips and Salsa on Niagara Falls like "The Atom Bomb" this week.
On Friday night, as some of you already know, I videotaped my first episode of AMP on MTV and on Sunday night, I taped KillSwitch, the X-files episode written by William Gibson.
I have come up with a couple of ideas for music to work on in my spare time as a result of all of the positive interactions I have been having recently with people.
I am also really getting inspired by a band that I am actually listening to now on the internet, using Real Audio player. The band is called Bentley Rhythm Ace and is made up of one of the former members of Pop Will Eat Itself. They are planning to tour the United States soon. They have an extremely cool music video with a reverse sky dive, and one of the brothers making waffles with a tetherball racket. The title of the track for that video is Bentley's Gonna Sort you out. They are on the record label Astralwerks. The same label as The Future Sound of London and Fatboy Slim.

The weekend was hectic doing all of that and keeping in touch with my friends who I am now affectionatley calling different x-men's names for.

Yesterday I had the strange privilage of being recognized in public, but not approached, and then announced in public, but not acknowledged. I am beginning to wonder what sorts of contexts that individuals outside of my fold use as thier Modus Operandi (incidentally, one of the titles for a major new Drum and Bass artists album (see Wired Magazine, or Photek) for distributing their versions of occurances. Perkins is cool, but there are always other places to go (take a look at my incomplete restaraunts list if you dare). Life is full of options.

Now that I know that I have certain things that I do regularly, I can make slight modifications in them, to keep things fresh. After all, hardly anyone wants to spend time getting to know techno musicians. They are just geeks with computers that like to push buttons.
Keep the peace brothers and sisters, the rest of this month's gonna be rugged. We got Smilla's sense of Snow, GI Jane, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Sphere, 4 Girls, and a whole bunch of stuff happenin'. And that's not even beginning to count what we're doing to Niagara County's educational system. With little or no effort. Keep your eyes peeled for reverse skydivers in Fredonia and Buffalo. We're gonna make this country smile. Strike up a conversation. It might not create a KillSwitch.

Happy Valentine's Day(Retrospectively)

My apologies for not getting a Valentine's Day banner up here sooner. I was too busy doing homework, and watching television (MTV, Disney Channel, CNN, and NBC (Saturday Night Live)) today to bother. My friends, two of which I now refer to (for anonymity's sake) as Rogue and Wolverine on the Web, went with me to study at the Buffalo State College Library today. I didn't get much studying done, I just read a few pages and experimented with some To Do list prioritizing. In other words, I wrote down what I was supposed to do this weekend, but I haven't even begun to work on the tasks, with the exception of what you see here on this page.
I didn't get the Valentine's Miracle I wished for, but I did give out some X-Men Valentines that I picked up at Target on Thursday. I went shopping there with my Mom and got an amazing deal on Pepsi. (This was a small miracle, so maybe I did get one after all.)
On Friday night, Rogue, Wolverine, and Cyclops (again, all anonymous friends), showed up at my house for a small get together and we had Chips and Salsa, and watched Lost Highway on Cinnemax. We also played Scrabble while watching another movie with Tupac (someone brought this over) in it.
The amount of violence was really up there in these two movies, and I do not recommend viewing either of them with children around. They were both R Rated.
I am really glad that we played the game of Scrabble, it is a positive sign of things to come. Maybe someday we will even play Go, Risk, or Monopoly. These are all games that I have played only at Coffee shops in the recent past, and that I would like to start working into my scheme, so that I will remember to play them in the years to come. I have young relatives that I have never played these games with, and that I have never even met, to be honest, but that I would like to get into contact with for the sake of preserving at least existing tradition, if not past traditions that need to be re-enacted.
I expect that if I keep trying to get people together on friday nights that things will die out a little bit after a while, there is only so far that you can throw a bowl of Salsa. So, what we are all going to have to do, those of us who care to, is get more people together, for more Chips and Salsa, bringing more stuff to share. Rogue has been exceptional at keeping things exciting in the realm of diet consciousness. She got me to try an Everlast powerbar today, and a Strawberry Cereal Bar.
If you are from Niagara Falls, and you want to know where we get our Salsa from, we get our Salsa from Tripi Foods down on Hyde Park past the Police Station. They have a Rockin' deal on Del Monte' Salsa for $1.25 a jar. Last week I bought 8 Jars! My mom introduced me to this place, and I think that in the future, I will be a long standing customer, that is, when I do my own shopping.
I think that I am still going to look for the case deals on the Ramen Noodles though. I bought 4 cases at Tops for $4.40. That's 48 Soups, or 24 for me, because I eat 2 at a time, for under five dollars. The deal was insane, and you never know when insane deals are going to pop up, you just have to listen the people that you know that read the newspapers about that stuff.
Someday, when I slow down, or when the local news is on the web with ads, I might start looking through it. It's too clumsy with all of that tree fiber right now. And it's still environmentally a bad deal. Even if you recycle paper, a large percentage of the paper has to be NEW paper because the old paper is too carboned up.
I wrote a poem about Silly Putty last week while studying some MicroEconomics. I think that you might like to read it. I will try to put it on the poetry page tomorrow night. And if I get to sleep now, I hope to have a religion update for you also.
Any Questions Superfriends? Just click on the Timestamp below, and you can send me mail.

PS : There's a Gingrich slam on the politics page, I picked it up from the DNC mail group that I am in. I wish I understood the whole House Speaker thing. I think I may someday, if I work at it. For some reason, that position's responsibility (if there is any), didn't sink in when I was in high school. I still remember little bits and pieces of the Pledge of Allegiance though.

Happy Valentine's Day(Retrospectively)

Valentine's Day is Coming Soon!

I have been responding to a lot of e-mail tonight. I should have been working on my thesis for a paper that we are supposed to begin writing tomorrow. Oh well, things happen. Anyway, heres some data for you: This is the official Nagano Olympic page (in English) powered by Java sponsored by IBM.
I hope to get a chance to look at it while the games are still on. It has some cool stuff like a ticker bar. I wish I worked in an office where I could surf all day. Then I wouldn't have to devote my own time to this stuff. I would be using like virtual time. If virtual time could exist.
http://www.nagano.olympic.org/home_e.html
Hopefully none of you will have difficulties loading the page.

Valentine's Day is Saturday. Don't forget to do something for Valentine's Day, even if you only buy yourself some chocolate, at least you'll get some of that Lithium moving and put some kind of a smile on your face. I'm planning to buy a couple of bars this Valentine's Day. I know I won't be buying any boxes. Unless some miraculous explosion of good fortune falls upon me. Hey, it is comforting to know, that at least in matters of the spiritual realm, or those of love, I can never predict the future.

Valentine's Day is Coming Soon!

HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY

I did some surfing tonight. I deserved the break. I've been working on PC's to learn about them, now it is time to have a little bit of fun. I found some interesting political data on the web last night, but the information takes up too much space to put on my page. It would fill up about 40K that I need to reserve for other things. (It's about 6 pages long). If you are interested, please e-mail me at the address below and I will forward a copy to you.

Take a look at this link if you are interested in some serious cyberart. There was one freaky piece of art in there that managed to find my domain name server and my administrator's name. I wouldn't be surprised by it, all of the major commercial services can get this information anyway. This program was designed to show you what the commercial web page designers are actually doing to find out who you are. It's kind of spooky, as one of my close friends has been known to say on occasion.
No fear people. These people are represenitng ideas that are supported by a good number of us that value computer science. The first computer program ever written was written in the 1800's for the Analytical Engine prototypes of Charles Babbage. The first computer programmer's name was Lady Ada Byron. Hence, the name that follows:

Hello There, People of the World. I have just learned some insane new things about the new Internet Explorer updates to Windows 95.
You can now make Desktop Toolbars for any folder on your Hard Drive. What this means is that you can make any group of files that you want to access, single clickable from the desktop. This may not sound like a very impressive improvement, but when you consider that you can look at ALL of the FILES that you modify regularly in a compact space as opposed to in a clutter on your main desktop, you will find that it is useful. Using the Windows 95 toolbars is also more convenient than using the Microsoft Office 95 toolbar. (Which I now plan to eliminate entirely, since I can make the desktop a single toolbar.)
In essense, what understanding the whole relationship between the toolbars and the desktop means, is that you can have infinite space on your desktop. You can put all of the folders on your hard drive on the desktop if you want, and while you will not see them all at once, you can scroll through the list of them on your desktop toolbar.
I wish I could describe it more simply.
Windows 95 continues to impress me every day. I can't even imagine some of the enhancements that they are going to build into Memphis. What could they possibly add?

I also found out one other thing while working with Windows 95, and that was that I could modify the filetypes to use the programs that I wanted to, to open the files that I wanted opened.
Microsoft Explorer takes over all of the HTML files on your drive when you install it, and opens them in a read format as opposed to the edit format that I wanted to use with Netscape Communicator to edit files like this one (my web index).
If you use the options under View and Files and Folders, you can change the file type attributes using the EDIT button after selecting the appropriate file type. I changed mine to open my HTML files using Netscape Communicator's -edit function.
It is complicated to choose between the functions, because apparently you can also program the Right Mouse Click options for the file under the functions called &Edit, &Open etc. This means that Windows 95 is actually programmable in its own strange sort of conventional language. (You can change the features of some Windows).
If this makes no sense to you now, don't worry, the more you play with the operating system, the more you will learn about it.

Going back to the Toolbars, you make your own Toolbars to move around the screen by clicking on the Start toolbar with your Right mouse button. It should say "Toolbars" as an option. Pick that option and then select "Add" and you should go into an Explorer file browser that will allow you to select files and folders. Select the file or folder that you want to appear on the toolbar and Voila! You have a new toolbar.
To some people this must be rather uninteresting stuff, but to other people, this stuff is going to take you on a wild ride. Get ready for Contact, because Memphis is coming this summer.

Hey there everyone, Groundhog Day is over and we're getting closer and closer to Valentine's Day. I still have done no research at all on it. School has been quite pressing. I hope to get something done about both Valentine's Day and the Winter Olympics this weekend with the regular weekend updates.

A friend put a link on his page with a button that looked like my main screen today. I was not sure exactly how he made it but it was impressive. I have had trouble compressing my images before to make them look decent enough to print, so I used the tools available to me: Paintbrush and Photomagic, to make an improved version of his idea of the button. This one has the original grey background of the page, but it comes with purple eyes rather than blue, because the purple eyes do not wash out as much with the compression. It also has a neon green backdrop so that it will stand out on most backgrounds. Here's the button, just download it (save it), put it on your page, link it up to this page:
http://www.wzrd.com/home/noisecontrol/index.html
and upload it to your home directory (along with your index or link updates). Hope you enjoy the button, it took me a couple of hours to design.

This button is also an active button that links back to my homepage (this page) so you should be able to copy the link location if you can't extract it from your browser text or the page locator. Why do things the hard way?
I hope everyone continues to have a great February. I am now officially taken care of in terms of the speeding ticket. And I am working toward not getting another one.
- Christopher J. Bradley February 6, 1998, 4:07 AM

Well, today is Wednesday. Yesterday I went to the movies with a friend, and to Barnes and Noble, and did some regular personal maintenance.
Unfortunately on my way to pick my friend up to go to Barnes and Noble, I got a speeding ticket. It looks like in the future I am going to have to be more cautious about my driving. I got all of the paperwork for the speeding ticket organized today, and I had planned to go to pay the fine. Unfortunately, the office closed before I got finished running my errands (30 seconds before I arrived at the door to the city court).
People get speeding tickets because of carelessness most of the time I think. I hope to in the future be more cautious and to recognize the traffic postings more clearly. I think that you tend to get more careless the more you drive. Everyone should be more aware of speed limits, they are there to save lives.

It was rather amusing that my Economics instructor brought up the issue of Stop signs during the course of class today. I am glad that she did though. It will help me to remember having made the decision to be more careful about my driving.

I saw this in the Democratic news today. I thought that it was a positive step. I hope that we continue to see more positive steps from the people in Washington.

PRESIDENT'S BUDGET INCREASES FUNDS FOR SCIENCE, RESEARCH; INCREASES AIDS TREATMENTS BY $100 MILLION
President Clinton's budget proposal increases funding for the National
Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). In
addition, treatments for patients suffering from AIDS will increase by $100
million. Under the President's budget the NIH would receive an additional
$1.15 billion to accommodate new initiatives in cancer, diabetes, brain
disorders, and genetic medicine. Over the next five years, NIH funding
would rise nearly 50 percent. NSF funding would go up 10 percent to pay for
research on computers, information technology, and education. [Washington
Post, 2/3/98]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope that everyone reading this is having a great February. I am doing my best to enjoy it. I know that this February has been an expensive one for me (a stolen car stereo, a speeding ticket). But then again, does money really matter? I have my tools for the creation of the things that I need readily available.
And I have some incredible advisors.
-Christopher J. Bradley February 5, 1998, 12:03 AM

I didn't ever think that I would be able to keep track of my thoughts long enough, or have a great enough incentive to keep track of them, that I might be able to collect an entire months worth. Somehow I did it. And I am glad to say that this accomplishment is only the beginning of many that I hope to achieve in the future.

I have spent most of the weekend studying philosophy. I made the mistake of studying too much Saturday Night, and as a result did not end up getting done what I would have liked to in terms of my updates to the religion page. Sometimes things happen. I plan to definitely be in attendance at my regularly scheduled Sunday appointment from this week on though.

I think that most of what happened this week was very complicated. I have been preparing to take on the full set of blows that college is going to start dealing me. I have also been spending a lot of time obsessing over some of the negative things that have happened in the recent past, like having had my car stereo stolen. I am going to have to learn to manage my responses to issues like these more effectively, so that I spend less time concerning myself with them.

The new car stereo IS now installed. I am happy to say that it not only sounds better than the old one, but it is connected properly, so that it remembers the radio channels that I program into it. My mechanic deserves a serious pat on the back for getting the whole thing done for me in less than 24 hours.

When I was out at Stereo Advantage buying the stereo the other day, I stopped at a small Chinese restaraunt called Bamboo China on Main St. in Williamsville. The food (Moo Goo Gai Pan) at Bamboo China was excellent. Unfortunately I was one of only five customers in the building, and eavesdropping on their conversation did not make me feel extremely comfortable. However, from their discussion, I did ascertain that they worked for Ingrahm Micro and that they had recently installed Internet Explorer version 4.0.

This lead me to come home and install the free version of Internet Explorer included with The Microsoft Network CD that I received in the mail. The new version of Explorer has several operating system enhancements in it that make it easier to find out information about the files contained on your hard drive and also make the Start button in Windows 95 function more effectively if you only have a 14" monitor (like I do).
So, if you get one of these free CD's, don't throw it away without checking to see if it contains IE4.0, because the enhancements almost make it like working with a beta version of Memphis (Windows 98).

Don't forget, today is Groundhog Day! (Click On The Link Here, Or At The Top And Bottom Of This Page For The Official Groundhog Day Site!) Hopefully this winter will be over soon. I am starting to notice something though. That is, that the more winters I get through, the shallower the snow seems, and the less I notice the cold.

Also coming up is Valentine's day. The last good Valentine's day I had was in 1992. I took my girlfriend to the Red Coach Inn. I would like to go there again some day, but I doubt that I will have a reason to for a couple of years anyway.
It is going to take me that long to find the right girl again I think. Who knows though, I bumped into that girlfriend just a couple of weeks ago, and she told me that I could give her a call. But I did something really stupid. I wrote her number down incorrectly.
I am going to make a conscious effort this year to make Valentines Day more exciting for myself though. I might do some studies about St. Valentine and even put up a link or two.

Finally, don't forget to check out the updates to Black Operations (Poetry), The Philosophy Page, or The Poetry Page. There is also a small update that I made to the Religion page Tuesday night. And if you want to look back at a really up month, check out the January 1998 page.
Have a happy and safe Groundhog Day!
I'm going to go and videotape JFK from Cinemax and then I'm back to the books.
